• Where did Bed Bugs come from?? –Many moons ago, bed bugs were actually BAT BUGS. Now we have both. When cavemen began sleeping in caves with bats…the BAT BUGS evolved to biting man. Over the years, we would use a product called DDT for pest control. It killed everything…including people. Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane, commonly known as DDT, is a colorless, tasteless, and almost odorless crystalline chemical compound, an organochlorine, originally developed as an insecticide, and ultimately becoming infamous for its environmental impacts. So the EPA banned the product. At that point, Bed Bugs were eradicated in the United States.
  • How did Bed Bugs make it back to the United States? –With the opening of the International Airport O’Hare in Chicago. This allowed other nations with Bed Bugs to travel and bring them back to the US.
  • Why are Bed Bugs so hard to kill? — Mainly due to lack of knowledge. Bed Bug extermination is NOT taught or required knowledge for any exterminator. It is a self taught category. BED BUGS ARE NOT BUGS AT ALL. They are parasites. Killing parasites is MUCH different and requires a different approach than killing a bug.

What are parasites?

Parasites are animals or plants which must live on, in or near another plant or animal to survive (go on living). There are several parasites in the environment. Examples of parasites include:

  • Bed Bugs
  • stomach and gut worms (threadworm, hookworm)
  • skin mites (scabies)
  • hair and body lice (head lice and crab lice)
  • protozoa (Giardia)
